Fr. Peter deSousa

Fr Peter deSousa is a Redemptorist priest from Mumbai. He was professed in 1960 and ordained six years later.

In 1971 May, he made a Marriage Encounter weekend, while studying in New York. He was so taken up with the couples awareness of the sacrament of matrimony and their homes as domestic churches, that he became involved in spreading the movement. He brought it to India in 1973 with the help of a dedicated young couple from New York. It spread rapidly in India and in Asia.

"Dedicated married couples were my teachers," says Fr Peter, "not only about matrimony but also about my sacrament of priesthood. Thousands of them have come into my life these 33 years and taught me how to love." It is a love that he now shares with the world.

From 1990 to 1995, Fr deSousa worked with Fr Gino Henriques in Evangelization 2000, in Asia and Oceania. This was another turning point in his life. He learned a lot about discipleship among the Laity.

Something to think about!
